Earthquake in Crete: earthquake of magnitude 5.5 – Foreign

Rome, December 29, 2021 – New strong earthquake shock off the coast of Chalk: the earthquake of magnitude 5.5 it was recorded at 7:08 local time (6:08 in Italy) off the south coast.

According to data from the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) and the US geological monitoring service Usgs, the earthquake had a hypocenter at a depth of 20 km and epicenter at sea 15 km from the village of Pyrgos. There are currently no reports of damage to people or things.

On December 26, another two earthquakes of magnitude 5.3 and 5.1 were recorded in the sea near Crete (to the east, 10 kilometers deep).
