Eintracht captain is seriously injured: Frankfurt’s unlucky Pawollek suffers another cruciate ligament tear

As of: January 26, 2024 10:49 a.m

Frankfurt’s captain Tanja Pawollek tore a cruciate ligament in the defeat against FC Barcelona and was out for months again. Geraldine Reuter, who was also substituted, needs to be examined again.

The Eintracht Frankfurt women have to cope with the next bitter setback after being eliminated from the Champions League. As the Hessians announced on Friday, captain Tanja Pawollek tore a cruciate ligament in her right knee in the 2-0 defeat.

This is the 25-year-old’s second injury of this kind in a short period of time. Pawollek had already torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the 2021 cup final. She will be out again for several months.

Arnautis is “very sad”

“We are very, very sad about the shocking diagnosis. We are all incredibly sorry that she will be missing for a longer period of time,” says head coach Niko Arnautis. Pawollek is “incredibly important” to the team on and off the pitch. “We wish Tanja a lot of energy and strength and are convinced that she will come back stronger as a fighter,” said Arnautis.

A diagnosis is still pending for Géraldine Reuteler, who also had to be substituted after a blow to her foot. She has to be examined again in Frankfurt. At least Stina Johannes gave the all-clear. The goalkeeper was ill and had to stay in the dressing room during the break due to stomach problems. She is not threatened with a longer break.
