Five goals from Erling Haaland, plus one from Kovacic, and four assists from Kevin De Bruyne sank Luton and launched Manchester City towards the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. Pep Guardiola’s team, holders of the FA Cup, won 6-2, closing the first half at 3-1, with the Norwegian scoring in the 3rd, 18th and 40th minutes, again following a cue from the Belgian. The home team reduced the score in the 45th minute with Clarke, who repeated his score at the start of the second half but Haaland immediately eliminated any desire for a comeback from his rivals, scoring again in the 10th and 13th minutes.
The striker had scored five goals for City once before, about a year ago, in the 7-0 defeat against Leipzig in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16. Kovacic scored the last goal in the 27th minute for City who, on a perfect evening, however suffered a new injury to Jack Grealish, who came off the pitch in the first half with his hands on his face.
