According to information from the French-language ‘Sudinfo’, Gilbert Bodart (61), former Red Devil and ex-Standard goalkeeper, attempted suicide on Monday evening.

Bodart is said to have jumped from the Europa Bridge in Huy and ended up in the Meuse. The rescue services then managed to get Bodart out of the water.

The uncle of current Standard goalkeeper Arnaud Bodart announced on Facebook what he was planning to do. “I’m working on my last hours, I can’t handle this damn life anymore,” he said.

Bodart stood between the posts for the Rouches in almost 500 matches in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1986 he made his debut for the Red Devils at the age of 23. He also played for the Italian teams Brescia and Ravenna and for the French Bordeaux. In 2002 he ended his playing career at Beveren.
