China’s Hong Kong team emerged victorious in the men’s team championship at the FIE Foil World Cup in Hong Kong. Led by Tokyo Olympics men’s individual champion, Zhang Jialang, the Hong Kong team staged a remarkable comeback in the final against the Italian team to claim the title.
The tense final saw the Hong Kong team trailing in the first seven games, but they managed to turn the tables in the eighth game thanks to a stellar performance by Cai Junyan. With Zhang Jialang securing a 5:3 victory in the final game, the Hong Kong team sealed their victory with a total score of 45:41.
Earlier in the competition, the Chinese team defeated the British team and the United States team to reach the semi-finals, where they faced a tough challenge from the Italian team and ultimately settled for fourth place after losing to South Korea in the bronze medal match.
In the women’s team competition, the Chinese team put up a strong fight but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by the French team, ultimately finishing in seventh place. The final showdown saw the Italian team emerge victorious against the French team to clinch the gold medal, with the Ukrainian team taking home the bronze.
