Five golds signed by D’Odorico, Zanni, Rizzi Berton and Restivo, four silvers and seven bronzes

UDINE. Italy closed the Mediterranean Games in Algeria in first place in the medal table (159 medals) and Friuli Venezia Giulia definitely did their part. In fact, 16 medals won in Oran (5 golds, 4 silvers and 7 bronzes) by the 17 color bearers of our region.

The medals of the most precious metal came from Sofia D’Odorico, Mirko Zanni, Giulia Rizzi, Aurora Berton and Matteo Restivo. Sofia D’Odorico, already 2021 absolute European champion with the national volleyball team, was the star of the final with Turkey, won by Italy 3-1.

The spiker of San Giorgio di Nogaro landed 15 balls and was, together with Squarcini, the best scorer of the final. In the weights the Pordenone Mirko Zanni won gold in the snatch and bronze in the sprint in the 73 kg category.

The 24-year-old from the Army, bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the category up to 67, has shown a marked growth compared to the first outings in his new category. In Oran he was the author of a perfect test, also demonstrating his very great character. In fencing, gold came with Giulia Rizzi from Udine, athlete of the Fiamme Oro who currently lives and trains in Paris.

The 33-year-old from Friuli, who grew up at Asu Udine with Maestro Piraino, won the individual sword title. For her the next commitment is represented by the world championships, for which she has been called up as a reserve. In athletics Aurora Berton of Libertas Friuli Palmanova won gold with the 4×100 relay (with a time of 43 “68), in which she was included as the third fractionist together with Siragusa, Hooper and Herrera.

Trained by Lucia Pierobon, Berton is the absolute Italian vice-champion and Italian U23 champion in the 60 indoor floors and was blue at the World Championships in Belgrade which took place in the spring. Udinese swimmer Matteo Restivo contributed to the gold in the 4×100 mixed relay and then won silver in the 200 backstroke.

Silver also went to swimmer from Beano di Codroipo, Alice Mizzau, second in the 4×200 sl and then bronze in the 200 sl. Alice also won bronze in the mixed 4x100m, together with Sonia Laquintana from Pordenone, who individually won bronze in the 50 butterfly.

Silver of great prestige for the Pordenone judoka Kenny Bedel in the 81 kg, who had been away from the podium for about two years (from the 2020 national final) and who found in this medal a starting point for the next appointments.

In silver athletics also the Trieste of Bracco Milano Nicla Mosetti in the 100 hurdles. In the weights Cristiano Giuseppe Ficco (category 102 k) placed third in the snatch test (with 164 kg).

Bronze in the fight with Studd Obispado Morris in the 57 kg of freestyle and bronze also in sailing for Giovanni Coccoluto Giorgetti from Trieste in the Laser Ilca 7 category, a bronze won in a sort of blue derby with Chiavarini. Twenty-nine years old, the sailor from Trieste competes with the Fiamme Gialle.
