Giuseppe Dossena, 63, won a Scudetto with Sampdoria together with the Italian national team coach Roberto Mancini
The former midfielder applauds the former team-mate at the time of the Scudetto with Sampdoria also for the sensitivity shown in the choice of players and the ability to involve the whole squad
UDINE. Beppe Dossena won the World Cup in 1982 without taking the field even a minute and won the Scudetto with Sampdoria together with Roberto Mancini in 1991. He knows the coach well, and knows what it means to win an event wearing the blue shirt.
Dossena, are there any points of contact between your victory at the Mundial ’82 and that of Italy at the European 2020?
“No, it’s been too many years to make a comparison. Similarly there is the emotional involvement, solidarity and participation of the people ».
We have found that the President of the Republic Mattarella is more composed than Pertini.
«Mattarella is always composed, but it must be said that the institutions are always close to the national team in good times. Sometimes these hits are used, but this is not the case. I saw a strong and sincere participation from the president ».
You won the Scudetto at Sampdoria with Mancini and other members of the coach’s staff. Impossible not to ask her for a reflection.
“A good company that I am sure has been able to create the right atmosphere in the dressing room and that will have given a fundamental contribution to the Azzurri expedition”.
Mancini seems to have changed a lot compared to when he was a footballer. And as a technician he seems to have made the leap in quality after the English experience. Do you agree?
«No, today he is the one who was on the bench at Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter. If anything, it must be said that club teams need very different interventions than those needed in the national team. Characteristically Mancini always appears very cold and detached, in reality he has fire inside ».
The choices of the players were not so obvious. In some ways they were brilliant like the call from Zaniolo which had yet to make its debut in A.
«I recognize at the“ Mancio ”a great sensitivity in the choice of men. This is not a natural ability. Coming from a very dark period for the national team, he knew he had to recreate a climate of great complicity. He rightly involved everyone.
