Race on the snow, the athlete from Ozegna was called up after the excellent performances in January: “I want to honor the blue jersey”

OZEGNA

The Canavesana of Ozegna Chiara Giovando, registered for the Pegarun of Bergamo, left today Wednesday 2 February from Bergamo Orio al Serio airport for Spain where on Friday she will play the vertical Skysnow world championships on the snow which will take place in Sierra Nevada , in Spain.

The call came after the excellent start of 2022. In January she first conquered the success in Albenga at the Gallinara trail and then came second in Lombardy in Val Camonica in the first stage of the Crazy Skysnow Italy Cup circuit.

Giovando, who will turn forty-three in March, is married to Davide Tarella (he also competes in both foot and mountain races) and has a twelve-year-old daughter. The Canavese was convened by the Italian federation of Fisky chaired by Fabio Merardi and by the technical commissioner of the national teams Roberto Mattioli. Giovando will compete on Friday 4 February in the vertical race of a length of 4.3 kilometers with 950 meters of climbing on the snow, the finish line is at an altitude of 3050 meters. Instead on Saturday 5th there will be the classic race with ascent and descent always on the snow over a distance of 12.5 kilometers with 925 meters of altitude difference, in which other Italian athletes will be engaged.

“This call came quite surprisingly – says Giovando – in fact I didn’t think I could participate in the Skysnow World Championships after the physical problems I had last year, but the excellent performances first at the Albenga Trail and then at the vertical kilometer of Tonale changed the scenario. I have prepared myself as best I can, even in the last few days I have tried to improve my physical condition and I hope to have a good race and to honor the blue jersey as best I can. The rest of this year must be carefully evaluated, also because I still have to find the best physical condition after the injury. I have to understand which races I can participate in without risking other physical problems ».
