The President of Kenya, Ruto, expressed his excitement and optimism about the construction of the Kenya Sports City project by a Chinese company during the groundbreaking ceremony held in Nairobi on March 1. The project, known as the Talanta Sports City, is set to transform and upgrade the Kenyan sports industry, according to the President.

The Talanta Sports City project, located in Nairobi, will feature a 60,000-seat FIFA-standard professional football stadium. It is slated to be a key venue for the 2027 African Cup of Nations, hosting both the opening and closing ceremonies as well as various competitions. The construction of the project is being carried out by China Road and Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd. and is projected to be completed by the end of 2025.

President Ruto emphasized in his speech that Kenya’s collaboration to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations at the stadium with other countries will establish a strong foundation for the country to become a prominent sports development and event center regionally, within Africa, and even on a global scale.

With the construction of the Kenya Sports City project, Kenya aims to boost its sports infrastructure and enhance its reputation in the sports industry. The President highlighted the project as a symbol of the country’s and Nairobi’s infrastructure development, believing it will reshape Kenya’s sports image.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by reporters from Xinhua News Agency, including Dai He, Zhou Chuyun, Li Yahui, as well as journalists James and Duncan. The event was produced by the Xinhua News Agency Audio and Video Department and the Xinhua News Agency International Communication Integration Platform. The collaboration between China and Kenya on the Talanta Sports City project demonstrates the strong global connection between nations in achieving common goals and developments in various sectors such as sports.
