Now that a few weeks have passed since the death, it is clear, according to the Frankfurt (Oder) public prosecutor’s office, that Bernstein died of natural causes. No further information about the cause of death was given.
After the autopsy of Bernstein’s body, the authorities had already announced that they “most likely assumed a natural death”. Toxicological and histological samples were taken for further examination.
Nationwide sympathy
After the club boss’s sudden death at the age of 43 on January 16th of this year, a death investigation was initiated in Brandenburg, where Bernstein lived on the outskirts of Berlin. This is a normal process when the cause of death is unclear.
