Honda Africa Twin 2022: photos, features and news of the new maxienduro

The Japanese attitude of constant improvement is clearly reflected in the 2022 version of the Honda Africa Twin, an icon of modern motorcycling and one of the most successful products of the Japanese two-wheeler giant. Improving the products of the enduro-adventure family, in light of the important transition to Euro5 some time ago and the adoption of the 1100 cc engine, was not easy. But for 2022 the two Africans (i.e. the Twin base and the Adventure Sports version) are adapting to the times, with a few but substantial adjustments to their solid framework.

The parallel twin engine of 1,084 cc with 102 HP and 105 Nm has been confirmed. The semi-double cradle frame is made of steel and the seat post is made of aluminum. The chassis is of reference, with an aluminum swingarm derived from the specialized Crf450R and adjustable suspension. The electronic equipment includes a 6-axis Imu inertial platform that supervises all driving aids: 7-level Hstc traction control, 2-mode cornering Abs, 3-level antiwheelie. On the version with DCT gearbox it also affects gear changes when cornering. The Throttle By Wire throttle offers six Riding Modes, four preset plus two fully customizable. The tall, rally-style instrumentation features a 6.5 ”color TFT touch screen that integrates Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth connectivity for all smartphones. An additional LCD screen expands the range of information displayed. The full LED system has been confirmed, equipped with DRL daytime running lights, and Cruise Control.

Updates for the standard Africa Twin model include the stock aluminum rear rack and new graphics called ‘Big Logo’. The version with Dct double clutch transmission has further refined settings for the first two gears that make driving even more effective and enjoyable.

Adventure sports

The Adventure Sports version of the Africa Twin now has new graphics called “Cracked Terrain” and new color combinations in both available colors. There is also a new lower windshield, but still height-adjustable. The engine is still the 1,084 cc twin-cylinder, as has been confirmed by the increased tank (24.8 liters) compared to the base and the aerodynamic protection guaranteed by the adjustable windscreen.

The 2022 model of the Africa Twin will be available in dealerships from September, with prices yet to be defined but we expect them to be in line with the old price list.
