The third-longest encounter in the history of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) left the victorious Eisbären Berlin professionals completely euphoric. “These are exactly the moments that make the playoffs. You train for exactly these moments all summer, your whole life,” enthused attacker Lean Bergmann after the 4:3 win against the Straubing Tigers.
In front of 5,635 spectators in the sold-out ice rink at the Pulverturm, the home team put pressure on from the start. The Berliners barely even managed to provide relief with their own attacks. Philip Samuelsson’s opening goal in Straubing was well deserved. After the first break, the hosts’ dominance did not change for a long time. The Berliners once again had their strong goalie Jake Hildebrand to thank for not falling behind.

In the final period, Byron even scored Berlin’s third goal, but the Straubingers forced extra time with goals from Joshua Samanski and Cole Fonstad.

Bergmann didn’t care at all whether he was the last to touch the puck when Ty Ronning scored the winning goal. “The main thing is that we got it in somehow and won the game. Everything else is secondary,” said the attacker, who positioned himself directly in front of the opponent’s goal when Ronning’s decisive shot took place.
The evening didn’t start particularly well for Ronning, who forced the decision with his long-range shot. The winger hardly managed anything in the regular season. The attacker attributed the fact that he still played a key role in the end to the support of his teammates. “Big compliments to the team,” said Ronning at Magenta Sport. “My first few periods weren’t good, but the boys built me up and encouraged me to stay in the game.”
