Mafia, former boss Giovanni Brusca free: leaves prison after 25 years – breaking latest news

Rome, May 31, 2021 – Ha left the prison after 25 years, for the end of the sentence, theformer Mafia boss Giovanni Brusca, most loyal to the leader of the Cosa Nostra leaders, Totò Riina, before becoming a collaborator of justice by admitting, among other things, his role in massacre of Capaci. ‘U verru’ (the pig, in Sicilian) as he was nicknamed in the mafia circles, on 23 May 1992 he activated the command which then killed the judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo and the three escort agents Rocco Dicillo, Vito Schifani and Antonio Montinaro. He had been arrested in 1996 and, after a few years, he started collaborate with justice. He also played a leading role in killing the baby Giuseppe Di Matteo.

Today Brusca left the Rebibbia prison, as L’Espresso writes, in Rome, with 45 days in advance with respect to the expiry of the sentence. It will now be subjected to checks and protection and a four years of probation, as decided by the Milan Court of Appeal. The news was confirmed in investigative circles.




Brusca was released from prison as a result of the law of February 13, 2001, thanks to which he finished serving his prison sentence for the Italian State. Having chosen to collaborate with justice, he obtained the penalty discounts required by law.
