Lionel Messi continues to dominate at will in Major League Soccer. In Miami’s victory against New York, the world footballer was involved in all of his team’s goals. Meanwhile, his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo shines in Saudi Arabia with the 66th hat-trick of his career.

World footballer Lionel Messi set two records in Major League Soccer with his team Inter Miami’s spectacular 6-2 win against the New York Red Bulls. Record number one: Never before had a player in the US professional league been involved in six goals for his team. Record number two: He provided five assists – more assists in a game than any other player before him, according to MLS statistics.

“Another important home win to continue our good series,” Messi wrote on Instagram alongside a celebratory photo of himself and his teammates. The 36-year-old superstar scored one goal himself on matchday 12 at Chase Stadium. The other goals were scored by Uruguayan Luis Suárez (3) and Matias Rojas (2) from Paraguay after a 0-1 lead at halftime – all after assists from Messi. There were around 21,500 spectators in the stadium for the home game.

Messi, who was named MLS Player of the Month in April, has now scored at least one goal in six consecutive league games – and has ten goals and twelve assists after just eight games. With the win, Miami extended its six-game unbeaten streak and remains at the top of the Eastern Conference. Messi and Suárez lead the top scorers list with ten goals each.

Ronaldo on a scoring spree in Saudi Arabia

Meanwhile, Messi’s eternal arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo is scoring goals on an assembly line in Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese scored three times in Al-Nassr’s 6-0 win over Al-Wehda in the Saudi Pro League; it was the 66th hat-trick of his career. Ronaldo first scored in the 5th minute to give Al-Nassr the lead, then added his second goal just a little later after a nice cross from Marcelo Brozovic (12th).

After Otavio and Sadio Mané had further extended the lead, Ronaldo scored his third goal of the evening in the 52nd minute following an assist from Mané. For the star striker, it was goals number 39, 40 and 41 across all competitions in the current season, in which he has played 40 competitive games for Al-Nassr so far. In the Saudi Pro League alone, the 39-year-old now has 32 goals, meaning he leads the top scorers list by a large margin over Aleksandar Mitrovic (Al-Hilal).
