The New York Mets and first baseman Pete Alonso have reached an agreement on a one-year, $20.5 million deal to avoid arbitration, sources say. The club has not yet confirmed the deal.

Alonso, who is set to become a free agent after this season, had a strong year in 2023, hitting .217/.318/.504 with 46 home runs (third in the Majors) and 118 RBIs (second). He also tied Howard Johnson on the franchise’s home run list with 192, putting him 60 shy of leader Darryl Strawberry.

The agreement ensures Alonso will remain with the Mets for at least one more season as he continues to make his mark on the team’s record books.
