Rome, 11 October 2021 – Kukaleshi Newsletter, 41 years old, with Albanian origins and 23 in Italy, he still dreams of Italian citizenship. To deny him the consequence of a trivial rear-end collision in the car, a minor accident, which occurred in 2005, between the outskirts of Rome and Monterotondo. A shock for which the justice of the peace sentenced her four years later for culpable injuries to a fine of 600 euros. “And to say that with the elderly man I hit – he says – we initially agreed on an amicable statement. Then he thought better of it and, perhaps even for the seven days of prognosis reported, he preferred to take legal action”. The seemingly definitive blow to the affair was given by a general amnesty dating back to 2006 that cleared everything: “The fine was condoned by law and had no legal effects” explains Alì Abukar Hayo, the lawyer who assists him. “I mean, I completely forgot about it,” adds Kukaleshi.
The bureaucracy can be relentless and that collision has returned to reappear in Jurida’s life after he applied for Italian citizenship in 2017. But the no that came a few days ago was categorical motivated by the fact that the woman “would not have reached a sufficient degree of integration into the national community, which can be inferred primarily from respect for the rules of civil coexistence”. “In many years of work I have never seen such a thing – commented the lawyer. I sent a reply to the Ministry”. Jurida says she is “marked by the story” and says that she could have motivated the question by explaining that she was married to an Italian “But it didn’t sound right: I have been living in this country for 23 years, I feel it mine. Here I go to the contributions and here, after many sacrifices, I started our business with my husband “.
