The Austrian Florian Nuessle missed the qualification for the World Snooker Tour 2023/24 and 2024/25 by a razor-thin margin at the second and final qualifying tournament in Leicester on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old entered the final day with four wins and defeated Englishman Haydon Pinhey 4-1 in the semifinals. In the all-important match against Scotsman Dean Young, Nüßle was already leading 3:1 and was only one frame away from the Tour Card. But Young, who was the same age, won three frames in a row and thus the match 4:3.
“I still had a chance in the last frame and once again I concentrated all my strength and tried to keep my concentration high. However, a slight positional error forced me to take a riskier pot on black during my break, which then just barely fell. Giving up the match like this is extremely bitter,” said Nüßle.
