Ragusa passes the first round of the new Italian Cup formula and does so at the end of a match always played against Faenza and brought home with full merit by coach Lino Lardo’s girls who, apart from the absences of Milazzo and Jakubcova (the first is almost ready to return to the field), they had to deal with Spreafico not being at his best due to a flu attack, but who still wanted to take the field to help the team.
As mentioned, the match was never in question and saw the overall MVP (i.e. the most valuable player) in Oderah Chidom, scorer of 29 points and undisputed leader under the scoreboards. On the other side, Faenza, even without Booker as well as Spinelli, had only scored 34 points at half-time and 38 almost at the end of the third quarter of the game.
Ragusa therefore went on the velvet and in the end won the match with the final score of 83-59, giving themselves the second round at Virtus Bologna: match which will be played on Sunday at 4pm.
“In the meantime – said the coach – I can never stop thanking the girls from Serie B and the youth teams who always give us a big hand, especially in this season where unfortunately we have problem after problem. Today we also had Spreafico affected, otherwise they wanted to play an important match and play the quarterfinals with Bologna. There was a lot of concentration on the part of the girls who managed to close it as soon as possible. Bologna? It’s logical that if it’s full, it will be a mountain to climb, but the girls are surprising us, we’ll have to keep up, go and play with our heads held high, with the knowledge that in the first leg we played on equal terms even if we were at complete, we hope in the meantime to recover Spreafico, with Milazzo who is almost ready, so let’s try to give the best performance possible”.
