TURIN. Piedmont will be the European Region of Sport 2022. This was announced by Aces Europe, the Federation of European Capitals and Cities of Sport which has been assigning titles since 2001, in collaboration with the European Parliament. It is the first time that an Italian Region has obtained this recognition. Piedmont was chosen by Europe as a «good example of sport aimed at everyone as an instrument of health, integration, education and respect“. “We are very happy and proud – underline the president of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio and the councilor for Sport Fabrizio Ricca – this appointment comes after a preparation process that testifies to the great steps forward made by Piedmont in promoting sporting activity to all levels. A path made of work and commitment, which has allowed us to become the first region in Italy to be able to boast this investiture. A recognition that will also allow us to obtain higher scores in the resources that Europe assigns in the field of promotion and sports facilities and therefore an additional tool, aware that every euro we invest today in sport we will save tomorrow on health ” .

“Our territory, already full of events, is ready to work to further expand the sports offer – Cirio and Ricca conclude – sport has always restarted and we will involve in a year of sport for everyone not only our Piedmont, but also the rest of Italy and Europe “.
The other awards
The title of European Region of Sport 2022 is added to the other awards that Piedmont has already won over the years: European Capital of Sport (reserved for capitals with more than 500,000 inhabitants) in Turin, European City of Sport (Award reserved for cities with more of 25,000 inhabitants) in Biella, Chieri, Alba and Novara, European Town of Sport (reserved for cities with less than 25,000 inhabitants) in Orbassano, Cantalupa, Giaveno, Savigliano, Valdengo, Fossano, Pino Torinese and Busca and European Community of Sport ( reserved for communities made up of several municipalities), Olympic Municipalities Via Lattea, Valle Varaita, Valsesia, Monferrato, Terre della Lana.
