The “Rane Run”, designed among the terraces of the middle Valtellina, is a non-federal race that follows old paths restored by the locals which were once affectionately called “Maia Rani”. The exciting itinerary of the Rane Run (8Km 680 D+ ) winds through the characteristic ancient nucleus of Maroggia; through winding alleys and welcoming squares, runners will be enveloped by the authenticity of a bygone time. Their race will continue up to the suggestive town of Piasci, where the famous “Centon” stands, a majestic centuries-old chestnut tree which testifies to the longevity and beauty of the surrounding nature.
It is here that participants will return to Pedemonte, following the Sentiero della Volpe, a route that offers breathtaking views and a profound connection with the surrounding area. Each runner, in addition to the satisfaction of having crossed these places full of history, will receive a bib for the event, and the first 150 registered participants will be able to receive an exclusive race package. For those who wish to refresh themselves after the effort, a lunch is provided, upon reservation. This year, the Rane Run joins the Sondrio circuit of the Retici Balzi, a recognition of the importance and quality of the event in the local sporting panorama.
But the Rane Run is not just a race; it’s an opportunity to reconnect with the roots of the local community and to help restore and maintain old historic trails that have shaped the lives of generations. The name “Rane Run” draws inspiration from the “Festa delle Rane”, a traditional event held in Pedemonte di Berbenno during the last week of August. The local inhabitants were anciently known as “frog eaters”, a name that underlines the ancient custom of eating this animal. On the occasion of the race, at the end of the sporting event, there will be a party which will include a dinner with polenta, frog stew, sausages, frog sandwiches etc., musical entertainment by deejays, and the distribution of rich prizes and gadgets for all participants.
