Ricardo Gareca, the head coach of the Peruvian national football team, has responded firmly to recent comments made by Chilean players Gary Medel and Arturo Vidal regarding his decision not to call them up for international duty.
In an interview with La Tercera, Gareca stated, “I cannot guarantee a call or that they will play,” when asked about the absence of Medel and Vidal from the Chilean national team. He went on to explain that he has his own criteria for selecting players and that he is focused on building a strong team for upcoming matches.
Gareca’s comments come after Medel expressed his surprise at being left out of the Chile squad and sent a message to Gareca, saying, “I have been here for 17 years.” However, Gareca remained resolute in his decision, saying that he does not “marry nobody” when it comes to selecting players.
Despite the controversy, Gareca’s response shows that he is committed to making decisions based on what he believes is best for the Peruvian national team. It remains to be seen how this situation will impact the relationship between Gareca and the Chilean players in the future.
