RIVARA

The Canavese Alessandro Peracchione, from Rocca, won in Rivara. In the last seven hundred meters of the race, with a burning shot, he managed to get rid of the other two escape companions and present himself alone under the finish banner. The cycling race was reserved for the student categories and valid as the sixth edition of the Francesco Data memorial. Yesterday the race started with the sun but immediately afterwards it started to rain persistently. The final stages took place under water. Record number of starters: 92.

The event was organized by the Municipality of Rivara and by the Ivrea club. At the fortieth kilometer the first important action: two riders, Firrincielli of the Vigor and Magnani of the Pedale Senaghese, escaped from the group and reached a maximum advantage of forty seconds. After shooting the fugitives, the group split into two sections with twenty-one athletes who were part of the first with an advantage and about twenty seconds. In the last kilometers of the seventh lap of the nine scheduled, the decisive action arrived: three sprinted in addition to Peracchione were the Ligurian Luca Giaimi and the Lombard Nicholas Travella. The three reached an advantage of one minute and in a few kilometers on the penultimate pass under the finish banner the margin had increased to a first and forty-five seconds with the group not finding the right reaction. Under the rain Peracchione won and also boasted the title of provincial champion, preceding in the order Giaimi second by two seconds and Travella. «I’m very happy – said the winner – it was a really exciting sprint».
