The first official photo of Ryan Gosling doesn’t have Ken, the companion of Barbie. The image comes from film ‘Barbie’, which will be released in world cinemas in July 2023 and which is one of the most curious projects currently in progress. Not only due to the presence of superstar Margot Robbie, who has been entrusted with the lead role, but also because the film is directed by Greta Gerwig and is written by Gerwig herself together with Noah Baumbach. In other words, two leading names in the US independent scene, who have successfully navigated towards projects capable of conquering the mainstream audience.

‘Barbie’ brings the famous Mattel doll to the big screen. Initially, many observers viewed the project with suspicion, as it appeared to have weak foundations. Prevention became interest after the announcement that Barbie would be played by Margot Robbie, an actress who cannot afford a poor film. Another reason for curiosity: Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach were asked to take care of the screenplay and, only Gerwig, of directing.
Let’s start with the latter, which is one of the liveliest filmmakers who grew up in independent cinema. For example, you wrote and starred in ‘Frances Ha’ and ‘Mistress America’ and subsequently went behind the camera thanks to ‘Lady Bird’ (two Oscar nominations: best screenplay and direction) and ‘Little Women’ (Oscar for best script).
The presence of Noah Baumbach as co-writer he added specific weight to ‘Barbie’: he is in fact the author of things like ‘Frances Ha’, ‘Mistress America’, ‘The Squid and the Whale’, ‘The Meyerowitz Stories’ and’ The Story of a wedding’.
Filming for ‘Barbie’ began in March 2002 at the Warner Bros. studios in England. Taking into account that the cinema release is set for July 2023, we will have to wait a few more months before we can watch the movie trailer. In the meantime, let’s console ourselves with Ken’s first photo.
