Chicago legend Sammy Sosa returns to ‘The Windy City’ for autograph signing event

Legendary Chicago Cubs player Sammy Sosa is back in the ‘The Windy City,’ but his return is stirring up mixed emotions among fans. The former Dominican player, who hit 609 home runs in his 18-season career in the Major Leagues, will have a series of public appearances in Chicago, despite his strained relationship with the team.

Sosa, who has not been back to Chicago publicly since his retirement in 2009, expressed a desire for reconciliation with the Cubs. “I am a mature man and I think it is a possibility that we do it. I am open and I have no problem with it. We have had several misunderstandings in the past but now I am a real man. I feel great and I admit my mistakes, so why not?” he stated in an interview with local media.

Although Sosa did not specifically address past controversies, including allegations of steroid use, he maintained that he is open to resolving any issues with the team. The player has never acknowledged using prohibited substances during his career and was not suspended for it.

During his visit, Sosa expressed his fondness for Chicago and hinted at a possible reconciliation with the Cubs. While the relationship between Sosa, Cubs owner Tom Ricketts, and the organization remains strained, former Cubs player Aramis Ramírez has advocated for a reconciliation.

“I definitely miss being back here. Seeing people and spending time here, more time here I think would be great,” Sosa said, hinting at a possible future return to the team.
