Scott McKenna has followed fellow central defender Grant Hanley in pulling out of Scotland’s squad for the friendlies against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

McKenna, 27, who is on loan at FC Copenhagen from Nottingham Forest, will miss the game in Amsterdam on Friday and Tuesday’s meeting with Northern Ireland on Tuesday.

Norwich City’s Hanley, 32, had been recalled by national manager Steve Clarke after a long lay-off with an Achilles injury.

The centre-backs still in the squad are Jack Hendry, Liam Cooper, Ryan Porteous and John Souttar.

Kieran Tierney is also often used as the left-sided central defender in Clarke’s preferred 3-5-2 formation and no replacement for McKenna or Hanley has been called up.

“We’ve got enough cover in those positions so I think we’re quite happy with what we’ve got,” said assistant manager John Carver following Hanley’s withdrawal earlier this week.

McKenna has played the full 90 minutes in Copenhagen’s past seven games, including the Champions League last-16 defeat to Manchester City, while Hanley missed Norwich’s latest two matches in the Championship after limping out of their loss at Middlesbrough earlier this month.

Clarke’s side play in Amsterdam on Friday before Northern Ireland come to Hampden Park four days later, with both games kicking off at 19:45 GMT.
