Spanish Forward Sergio Canales Leaves Friendly Match Due to Discomfort

Reports have emerged indicating that Spanish forward Sergio Canales had to ask to leave a friendly match after just 30 minutes of play due to muscle discomfort. Canales, who came on as a substitute, suffered the discomfort during the 1-2 victory of Striped at the Mazatlán FC stadium.

The incident occurred when Canales burst the ball while receiving a pass with his left foot after a throw-in, following which he went to the ground. Later, in a similar play for the ball with an opponent, Canales lost his balance again. Although Canales was able to get up without help to continue on the field, he eventually requested a change and was substituted for Alfonso González.

It is important to note that Canales had undergone surgery on October 6 in Los Angeles, California, to repair a myotendinous injury to the rectus femoris of his left quadriceps. He returned to play in the friendly match as part of his recovery under the observation of his own physiotherapist, whom he brought from Spain.

Club Striped has expressed their intention to carry out the necessary studies in order to publish an official medical report regarding Canales’ condition. In the friendly game, Mazatlan FC opened the scoring in the 50th minute with a goal from Andrés Montaño, with Monterrey equalizing in the 54th minute through Sebastián Vegas. Germán Berterame then secured the victory for Striped with a goal in the 74th minute, in the Pacific Cup.
