The 2024 Shanghai Suzhou River Half Marathon concluded on March 24th with Ethiopian athletes dominating the competition. The event, which attracted 7,000 participants, started at Tianan Qianshu in Putuo District and featured a scenic route that showcased both natural and cultural landscapes.
Ethiopian athlete Immel claimed the men’s championship, crossing the finish line at Half Masu River Park in 1 hour, 02 minutes and 53 seconds. The women’s championship went to Ethiopian player Tadisi, who finished in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 17 seconds.
Participants, including Shanghai Harbor Football Club coach Muscat, expressed their admiration for the race course and the enthusiasm of Shanghai residents. Ma Rui, the men’s group runner-up, praised the city’s scenery and vowed to return for future marathons.
Local resident Zhang Leyang, who recently returned from studying abroad, was thrilled to participate in a marathon in his hometown. He emphasized the significance of measuring the city with his own footsteps and experiencing the cultural heritage of the “Half Ma Suhe” route.
The event not only highlighted the athletic prowess of the competitors but also served as a celebration of Shanghai’s rich cultural heritage. By igniting new vitality in the city, the Shanghai Suzhou River Half Marathon brought together participants from diverse backgrounds to experience the beauty of Shanghai in a unique and unforgettable way.
