The Best Three-Point Shooter in Basketball History: Steph Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu

Get ready for an epic showdown between two of the greatest three-point shooters in basketball history. Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors will face off against Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty in a three-point contest during the NBA All-Star Weekend 2024. The event is set to take place on Saturday, February 17 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, promising to be one for the books.

The competition will be played after the classic three-point contest and before the dunk contest, and it promises to be a battle of epic proportions. The league has announced standard rules for the competition, with each player shooting from different distances using different balls. Initially, it was planned that Curry would shoot from the NBA perimeter (7.24 meters), and Ionescu would shoot from the WNBA perimeter (6.75 meters). However, Ionescu later expressed her desire to shoot from the NBA line, a request that was accepted.

Each player will have 70 seconds to take all of their shots, with five racks of five balls placed at different points around the three-point perimeter. Four of the racks will have four standard balls worth one point, plus a “money ball” worth two. The final rack will consist of five “money balls,” which can move around the three-point perimeter. Additionally, there will be two “star balls” worth three points, shot from long distance.

Sabrina Ionescu, a native of Walnut Creek, California, and of Romanian descent, has made waves in the WNBA since being selected as the No. 1 overall draft pick by the New York Liberty in 2020. The 26-year-old has already cemented her status as a two-time All-Star and has achieved a significant milestone by winning the WNBA’s final 3-point contest. Her impressive performance included scoring 37 points out of a possible 40, breaking the previous record of 31 held by Stephen Curry and Tyrese Haliburton.
