SVWW wins point: draw between Wiesbaden and Nuremberg

As of: February 9, 2024 11:12 p.m

SV Wehen Wiesbaden collected another point against 1. FC Nürnberg to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hessians fought for a point against the better Nuremberg team on Friday evening (February 9th, 2024).

Ivan Prtajin took advantage of a big mistake by FCN goalkeeper Carl Klaus and scored to give Wiesbaden the lead (61st minute). It didn’t take long for fellow teammate Ivan Marquez to equalize for the guests (70′). Nuremberg struggled mainly because of the many missed scoring opportunities in the first half.

In the table, the “Club” is now in eighth place with 29 points as the first team with a negative goal difference (-9), but could be overtaken by Karlsruhe, Elversberg and Hertha at the weekend. Wiesbaden moved ahead of Hertha and is eleventh (27 points).

Wiesbaden’s coach Markus Kauczinski assessed his team’s performance in the two halves of the game differently on the Sportschau microphone: “The first half was terrible, that was the worst this year. We made the opponent stronger with our mistakes. After halftime it was a Even game, the draw is okay.” “I think we showed a dominant game today,” said a not entirely dissatisfied Nuremberg coach Cristian Fiel to Sportschau, “but in the last third we lacked the final consistency or the opponent’s foot got in the way. I’m with the game I’m not happy with the result.”

Game phase one goes to the “Club”

The first half of the midfield game in the 2nd Bundesliga clearly went to Nuremberg. Erik Wekesser (9th), Taylan Duman (32nd, 36th) and Benjamin Goller (36th) missed good scoring opportunities for the Franconians. This took immediate revenge in the second half of the game: after a break in protest from the fans against the further commercialization of the professional leagues in Germany, Prtajin struck.

FCN goalkeeper Klaus played a risky pass to his director Florian Flick, but he was unable to control the pass. Thijmen Goppel splashed the ball and fed his strike colleague Prtajin. With a precision shot from around 16 meters, the Croatian placed the ball between the gap that opened up between the right post and the outstretched arm of the keeper.

The deficit wakes up Nuremberg

The shock seemed to wake up the team of coach Cristian Fiel, who had to do without the talented striker Can Urun who had a cold: Nuremberg took control of the game again. This was rewarded: After a Duman corner, Wekesser crossed from the right into the storm center, where Marquez artistically headed to equalize. In the final phase, Prtajin missed the winning goal with a header (90th + 3).

After already missing a three-pointer against Osnabrück, the Franconians didn’t reward themselves this time either and are still stuck in midfield. Markus Kauczinski’s contractions Wiesbaden paid off and are now seven points ahead of the relegation place.
