The 2023 Chinese Basketball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Honors Outstanding Athletes
Xinhua News Agency, Xi’an – February 4th. The 2023 China Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held in Yan’an, Shaanxi on the 4th of February. The event was attended by Chinese Basketball Association Chairman Yao Ming, who took a group photo with the outstanding collective of the 2023 China Basketball Hall of Fame, members of the Chinese Women’s Basketball Team at the 1992 Olympic Games, and award-winning guests at the ceremony.
The ceremony began with congratulatory messages from three seniors, Zhang Changlu, Yang Boyong, and Cheng Shichun, who sent their well wishes via video. Following this, the new class of inductees entered the hall in sequence, with each inductee going through a career introduction video, a personal speech, accepting a celebrity badge presentation, and playing the short film “Inductees in My Eyes”. Relatives and friends completed the relevant procedures on behalf of deceased persons entering the hall.
After a rigorous selection process comprising three stages of nomination, selection, and final review, six “Outstanding Athletes” were selected for this year’s China Basketball Hall of Fame. The three male athletes include Huang Boling, Zhang Weiping, and Kuang Lubin, while the three female athletes are Li Shihua, Liu Qing, and Li Xin. In addition, Liu Guiyi and Chen Daohong were admitted as “Outstanding Coaches”, and Gong Peishan was admitted as a “Special Contributor”. Furthermore, the Chinese Women’s Basketball Team at the 1992 Olympic Games and the “Eighth Route Army 120th Division Combat Basketball Team” were admitted as “Excellent Group” and “Special Tribute Group” respectively.
The induction ceremony was a momentous occasion that celebrated the achievements and contributions of outstanding athletes and their teams within the Chinese basketball community.
