“Quzhou Hosts Lanke Cup National Go Tournament, Promoting Go Culture and Competition”
Quzhou, China – On July 11, 2023, the highly anticipated “Lanke Cup” National Go Tournament commenced at the Quzhou Grand Garden International Hotel. This prestigious event has attracted the attention of 60 million Go fans from across the country.
Known as the “Go Fairyland,” Quzhou prides itself in its deep-rooted Go culture, with Lanke Mountain being its iconic symbol. Over the years, the city has endeavored to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of Go culture. It has established the first international Go cultural exchange center in the country, as well as the first local training base for the national Go team. Major events like the “Quzhou Lanke Cup” World Go Open have effectively popularized Go and enhanced the level of competition.
The National Go Tournament, often referred to as the “Go Entrance Examination,” holds great significance for aspiring professional players. The 2023 “Lanke Cup” National Go Tournament has witnessed an overwhelming response from players all over the country. Lin Jianchao, chairman of the Chinese Go Association, expressed his excitement during his opening speech, acknowledging the enthusiasm and aspirations of Chinese Go players. He emphasized the exceptional opportunities Quzhou offers for the Go community, referring to the recent victory of Chinese chess player Gu Zihao over South Korean chess player Shin Jin-joo in the “Ke Cup” World Go Open.
The tournament, scheduled to run until July 19, features four groups: youth men’s, youth women’s, adult men’s, and adult women’s. More than 600 competitors have registered for this event. The youth groups will participate in fifteen rounds of competition, while the adult men’s group will have nine rounds and the adult women’s group will compete in seven rounds. The participants will be ranked and rewarded based on their performance in the tournament.
The “Lanke Cup” National Go Tournament is sponsored by the Chinese Go Association and the Quzhou Municipal People’s Government. It also receives support from the Zhejiang Go Association. The event is organized by the Quzhou “World Go Sacred Land” Construction Work Team, Quzhou Sports Bureau, Quzhou Big Garden Construction Investment and Development Group Co., Ltd., Lanke Cultural Industry Development Co., Ltd., and Quzhou Weiqi Association.
