The Chinese Men’s Table Tennis Team Wins 11th Consecutive World Championship

On February 25, in the men’s team final of the 2024 ITTF Busan World Table Tennis Team Championship in Busan, South Korea, the Chinese team defeated the French team with a sweeping 3-0 victory to clinch their 11th consecutive World Table Tennis Championship title. The victory marked the 23rd time that the Chinese men’s team has won the prestigious Swaythling Cup.

The Chinese team, led by coach Wang Hao and players Liang Jingkun, Ma Long, Fan Zhendong, Wang Chuqin, and Lin Gaoyuan, put on a dominant performance throughout the tournament. Ma Long, one of the team’s star players, celebrated his ninth World Table Tennis Championships team championship in what he announced would be his last World Championship game.

In the final match, Ma Long delivered a standout performance, defeating the French team’s Simon Gauz with a score of 3-1. The Chinese team’s lineup remained consistent, with Wang Chuqin, Fan Zhendong, and Ma Long showcasing their exceptional skills on the table.

Wang Chuqin set the tone for the Chinese team in the first set, swiftly defeating Felix Le Brun with a 3-0 victory. Fan Zhendong faced off against Alex LeBrun in the second set, eventually coming out on top with a hard-fought 3-2 win. Ma Long sealed the deal in the final match by overpowering Gautz and securing the championship for the Chinese team.

After the game, Ma Long expressed his gratitude to the team and his teammates for their support throughout the tournament. Fan Zhendong and Sun Yingsha were honored as the best male and female athletes of the tournament, capping off a successful championship for the Chinese team.
