New York, June 17, 2021 – La Nasa sound the alarm: the earth’s atmosphere has stored an “unprecedented” amount of heat, doubled in nearly fifteen years. According to experts, this phenomenon is at the root of the increase in ocean temperatures, which has and will bring about catastrophic effects on nature.
The scientific journal Geophysical Research Letters published the study directed by researcher Norman Loeb: “The trend is alarming,” said Loeb.
To achieve this, NASA scientists used data from satellites, which measured the change in atmospheric temperature. Then they took into account the indicator records the increase in methane and carbon dioxide emissions.
These changes are causing the ice to melt and increase the presence of water vapor, two elements that further affect the rise in temperatures.
The Earth doubled the heat ‘trapped’ in the atmosphere especially in the period from 2005 to 2019, when it doubled. According to Nasa and Noaa (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the month just passed was the hottest sixth of May in history, with an average of 0.81 degrees higher than the average of the same periods of the twentieth century.
