The Freccia dei Vini is back, the provincial “classic” also passes through Pavia

After two years of stop due to the health emergency, the Freccia dei vini returns on Sunday, the classic of cycling dedicated to the Elite and under 23, now in its 50th edition: the departure from Vigevano, the historic passage to Pavia, then the arrival in Stradella.

The meeting from 9 in Piazza Ducale, while at 12.15 the transfer to the Sforzesca where at 12.30 the official start will be given. Leaving Lomellina, the runners will arrive in the capital (they can be seen in via Bramante, via dei Mille, piazzale Ghinaglia, Ponte Coperto, piazzale Ponte Ticino, corso Strada Nuova, piazza Castello, via Santa Maria alle Pertiche, corso Cairoli, piazza Emanuele Filiberto , viale Gorizia, piazzale Porta Garibaldi, viale Partigiani, viale Montegrappa, via San Pietro in Verzolo, viale Cremona) then they will point south to enter Oltrepo from the Becca bridge (passage between 13.20 and 13.27 depending on the pace) continuing on provincial 15 towards Mezzanino, Bressana Bottarone (Cascina Bella fraction) and reaching Casteggio. After so much plain, we will start to climb with the first of 10 Gpm in Montalto Pavese, then down to Broni (three passages, at about 2.30 pm, 3.30 pm and 4.25 pm, Strada per Zavattarello, via Regione Gioiello, via Roma, via Emilia, piazza Garibaldi, via Dante) and up again, with the first of the three passages to the Canneto Pavese GPM.

The transit to Stradella (14.37-14.56) will mark the beginning of the “wine ring” to be repeated twice before arriving in via Bovio, between 16.26 and 16.54. The circuit will involve Zenevredo, Montù Beccaria, Montescano, Castana, Cigognola, Broni, Canneto Pavese, exactly the same route as the final part of the 18th stage of the 2021 Giro d’Italia, the Rovereto-Stradella. Road traffic, as prepared by the competent authorities, will be interrupted in all locations between the passage of the “start of the race” vehicle and the “end of the race”, but the individual administrations have established further restrictions. In Pavia from about 10 to 13.30 there will be a ban on parking in via dei Mille, piazzale Ghinaglia, piazza Castello (odd numbers on both sides of the half-lane), piazza Emanuele Filiberto from number 1 to number 6 on both sides.

The means of public transport will undergo changes in the route or the temporary suspension of the service between 12.30 and 13.30. In Bressana Bottarone, the ordinance provides for the suspension of traffic from 1.15pm to 2.00pm on the following roads: viale della Resistenza (Cascina Bella), via Vietti (intersection with viale della Resistenza), via I ° Maggio, via Mattei (intersection for Pinarolo) , via De Gasperi, via XXV Aprile (level crossing), via Marabelli and Strada della Perpetuta at the intersection with the former state road 35.

In Broni, the stalls of the weekly market in via Emilia, in the stretch from piazza Garibaldi to via Dante, must be cleared by 1.30pm. The same will happen for the street vendors in Piazzale Trieste in Stradella: sales stop at 12.30, evacuation by 13.30. Also in Stradella, the place of arrival, from 6 to 19 parking will be forbidden in Piazzale Trieste; from 1pm to 7pm in via Battisti, between via Nazionale and via Verdi, via Dellagiovanna, south lane of piazzale Trieste, via Bovio, via Repubblica, via Di Vittorio, via Garibaldi, via San Ludovico. From 1pm to 7pm the circulation of via Andrea Costa will be diverted to via De Amicis and via Pastore, except for residents. In the same time slot, traffic stops also in via De Gasperi, with the possibility for residents to exit in viale Resistenza. The extra-urban buses will stop in Piazza Matteotti. –
