The third leg of the National Indoor Track and Field Grand Prix ends with new national records set

The 2024 National Indoor Track and Field Grand Prix (third stop) concluded at the Shandong Provincial Sports Training Center Track and Field Hall with two national records being refreshed in the men’s 400m and 800m indoor races.

On the afternoon of March 13th, Xinjiang team player Elisir Wumer clinched the championship in the men’s 400m final with a time of 46.04 seconds, setting a new national indoor record for the event. Wumer, who is under 18 years old, has shown rapid progress in the past two years, breaking the national record for men under 18 in the 400m last year.

In the men’s 800m event, Liu De of the Guangxi team impressed by breaking the national indoor record with a time of 1 minute, 46 seconds and 63 seconds in the preliminaries. He went on to secure the championship in the finals with a time of 1 minute, 50 seconds and 84 seconds. This is not the first time Liu De has set a national indoor record for the 800m event, having achieved the feat in a previous competition as well.

Coach Shi Peng praised Liu De’s performance, attributing it to his recent excellent training results and experience in high-level competitions. Liu De expressed his anticipation for outdoor competitions and his determination to continue achieving success in the upcoming events.

The National Indoor Track and Field Grand Prix showcased outstanding athleticism and talent, with new national records being set in the thrilling races. Fans and athletes alike look forward to the upcoming outdoor competitions and further record-breaking performances.
