The new groups are not liked, even the Old West beats their fists

by admin

The League wants to bring Udine and Verona back to a South-East group full of big names. It would be evident the disparity between the forces in the field with Cantù in the west

UDINE. Serie A2 split on the composition of the groups for the 2021/22 championship. The assembly of the twenty-seven companies straight ahead, ready to become twenty-eight in two weeks with the repechage of San Severo, was particularly fiery.

A dozen companies, including the APU, do not like the division of the teams proposed by the National Basketball League at all, both for geographical reasons and for a question of technical balance. To better understand the situation, here are the two groups proposed by the LNP. In one we find Udine, Verona, Fabriano, Ferrara, Forlì, Ravenna, Cento, Chieti, Eurobasket Rome, Stella Azzurra Rome, Latina, Scafati, Nardò and San Severo. In the other there is Turin, Biella, Casale Monferrato, Cantù, Milan, Treviglio, Mantua, Assigeco Piacenza, Bakery Piacenza, Chiusi, Pistoia, Trapani and Capo d’Orlando.

The group of the Apu is not very convincing, first of all on the geographical level: thousands of kilometers are milled, from Friuli to Puglia, passing through Veneto, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo, Lazio and Campania.

For this reason Udine, Verona, Chieti, Forlì, Scafati, the two Romans, Latina and Nardò beat their fists on the table asking the Basketball League for a change that would shorten the distance: move Udine and Verona to the other group, in an exchange with the Tuscan Chiusi and Pistoia.

The request would allay a creeping technical dissatisfaction. The group of the Apu is considered decidedly more difficult, with teams that are investing a lot (in addition to Udine, also Verona, Ferrara, Scafati and Forlì), compared to the other, considered a sort of highway for a Cantù eager to return to the plan upstairs. The board of directors of LNP has taken into account the opinions that emerged and within a few days will send its final proposal to the FIP competitive sector. Uncertainty also regarding the clock phase. There are three proposals on the table: play a six-game second phase, play a shorter four-game phase, or not play it at all.

The crux is represented by the possibility or not of playing with the public in the stands: extending the season (and expenses) without having income from the box office, as in the season just ended, would be completely useless. The only certainties, on balance, concern the dates. The A2 championship will start on 3 October, while the Super Cup, which should have started on 12 September, will start on 8 September.
