The Paris Paralympics sitting volleyball qualifying tournament will be held in Yunnan in April

Xinhua News Agency, Kunming, March 5 (Reporters Gao Meng and Yue Ranran) – The 2024 Paris Paralympic Sitting Volleyball Qualifying Tournament and Intercontinental Sitting Volleyball Championship will take place in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan from April 3rd to 10th.

A press conference held by the Information Office of the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government revealed that 17 teams from 13 countries and regions will participate in the tournament, including 8 men’s teams and 9 women’s teams. The competition will determine the final two spots for the Paris Paralympic Games, with China fielding both men’s and women’s teams.

Zhang Xiaojing, deputy director of the Yunnan Provincial Sports Bureau, highlighted the significance of the event and the competitive nature of the participating teams. Gao Lisheng, Vice Chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation, praised the efforts made to ensure the event venue and accommodation facilities are fully accessible for all participants.

Deputy Governor of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Lu Xujun, emphasized the positive impact hosting the tournament will have on the development of disabled sports in the region.

The Paris Paralympic Games are scheduled to commence on August 28, 2024, with over 4,400 Paralympic athletes from 184 delegations competing in 22 events. The sitting volleyball competition will take place from August 29 to September 7.

With the upcoming tournament in Yunnan set to showcase top-level competition and promote inclusivity in sports, all eyes will be on the participating teams as they vie for a chance to compete at the prestigious Paris Paralympics.
