The Groups for the upcoming edition of the Copa Libertadores were announced on Monday in a draw held at the CONMEBOL headquarters in Paraguay. The competition is expected to be intense with top teams from the region participating.
The current champion Fluminense will face tough competition in Group A against Cerro Porteño, Alianza Lima, and Colo Colo. The group stage will run until the end of May, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the round of 16.
Alejandro Domínguez, the president of CONMEBOL, revealed that this year’s tournament winner will receive a prize of 23 million dollars, regardless of their performance throughout the competition. The final match is set to take place on November 30 in Buenos Aires.
In addition to the Copa Libertadores, the Copa Sudamericana also unveiled its groups for the upcoming season. Teams like Athletico Paranaense, Corinthians, and Defensa y Justicia will be looking to make their mark in the competition.
The top team from each group in the Copa Sudamericana will progress to the round of 16, while the runners-up will have a chance to advance through a playoff against the top third-placed teams from the Copa Libertadores groups. The round of 16 matches are scheduled to begin in mid-August, with the final set for November 23 at a venue yet to be confirmed.
