After 30 years, Max Eberl returns to his old place of work as sports director. During this time he has seen and experienced a lot. The now 50-year-old was never one for whom success simply came.
FC Bayern may not be the last challenge for Max Eberl, but it is definitely the biggest one yet. It all started for him as a little boy at the most successful football club in the country. Now, after a 30-year break, I’m back there as a sports director.
Eberl had never completely lost sight of the club from afar, but that doesn’t mean that he knows the customs or likes to follow them. On Tuesday, for his first appearance, he did not wear the muted jacket with a light shirt that is usual for these occasions, but rather checked trousers and a black blouson jacket. With Eberl’s appointment, a new era begins at FC Bayern, perhaps a more modern one, but with someone who knows the old one very well.
