It just wasn’t meant to be for Thomas Detry. In Houston, America, where the 9.1 million Houston Open took place on the Memorial Park golf course, Detry came second.
Detry, who played strong four days in a row and shared the lead with eighteen holes to play, finished in shared second place with a final round of 68 strokes. The 31-year-old from Brussels played flawlessly until the thirteenth hole and managed two birdies. On the par-4 fourteenth hole, the most difficult on the course, he hit the ball on the green in two strokes, but it ultimately took him three more strokes to get the ball into the cup. On the sixteenth hole, a par-5, he had the opportunity to draw level with the leaders with an eagle. However, the ball spun out of the hole and he had to settle for a birdie.
With his second place, he, like four other players – the Americans Taylor Moore, Tony Finau and the world number one Scottie Scheffler and the Argentinian Alejandro Tosti – had one stroke more than the German Stephan Jaeger, who immediately celebrated his first victory at the American PGA golf circuit.
In the FedexCup rankings, Detry climbs from 40th to 27th place.
Adrien Dumont de Chassart, who also made the cut, finished in 81st place with a final round of 72 strokes.
