With an ultimate round of 73 strokes, Thomas Pieters still had to lose eleven places in the $20 million Liv Golf Invitational Las Vegas, which was contested on the golf course of the Las Vegas Country Club in Nevada, USA.
The 32-year-old Antwerp resident, who was in a shared third place with an opening round of 65 strokes, dropped to a shared nineteenth place on day two with a round of 70 strokes, par. With a third and final round of 73 strokes, four birdies, four bogeys and a triple bogey, he finished 30th.
With his total score of 208 strokes, two under par, he counted ten strokes more in the final score than the American Dustin Johnson. The former number one in the world rankings is now on his fourth LIV Tour victory. Johnson ultimately did one better than his compatriots Talor Gooch, two-time winner last year, and Peter Uihlein, teammate of Thomas Pieters.
In the team classification, where there is a prize of five million dollars for the top 3, Pieters and his team RangeGoats GC came third with a total score of 24 under par. The victory in the team classification went to Smach GC with the Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell and the Americans Talor Gooch, Brooks Koepka and Jason Kokrak.
