TREVISO

Padel is an emerging discipline, an overwhelming passion. It is no coincidence that Adriano Panatta, in setting up “his” Racquet Club in San Lazzaro, decided to place it next to tennis. A discipline that has gained popularity thanks to former footballers, soon guaranteeing proselytes among members of all ages. Thus the Roman champion and now Treviso by adoption, the blue icon of the racket, decided to immediately give impetus to the padel, promoting the first amateur tournament “Adriano Panatta Racquet Club” for Saturday and Sunday: it will be the inaugural stage of the winter circuit, in programs singular and double specialties (male and female).

But, in the same structure, parallel to the padel, there will also be space for tennis (only singles, men and women), the sport that made Panatta known all over the world: identical dates for the Road to Rome tournament. They will be the first events hosted by the 1976 Davis Cup winner in his new club. A tangible sign of the turning point that the new facilities in San Lazzaro can ensure for the sport of the branded racket. For registration: www.tpratennis.it.

Tonight, meanwhile, the “tennis told”, the one linked to the stars of the first magnitude, will be held. At the Lovat bookshop in Villorba, starting at 6.30 pm, the journalist Stefano Semeraro, tennis signature for La Stampa for 30 years, will present his book “I Fab Four. Federer, Nadal, Murray, Djokovic. Twenty years of challenges that have changed tennis ”(pp. 240, ed. Sonzogno). Admission is guaranteed subject to availability, anti-Covid regulations require a Green pass and mask. The title – The Fab Four – is a clear reference to the Beatles, a choice that goes well with four champions who have marked the last 15 years of world tennis. The journey into the great challenges of the racket, with anecdotes related to the beginnings and families of the four champions, will be embellished by the interventions of Adriano Panatta. To moderate Fabrizio Brancoli, director of the Tribuna of Treviso and the Venetian newspapers of the Gedi Group. –
