Transfer perfect: FC Bayern Munich signs Sacha Boey

As of: January 28, 2024 9:57 a.m

FC Bayern has found its right-back. Sacha Boey is moving from Galatasaray Istanbul to Munich. The Frenchman should ease the personnel situation at FCB in the short term – and become a permanent solution in the long term.

The transfer of right-back Sacha Boey to FC Bayern Munich is perfect. “It is our wish to sign him,” confirmed Munich coach Thomas Tuchel on “Sky” on Saturday afternoon. After the medical check, this has now been officially confirmed. After Eric Dier, who made his starting eleven debut at FC Augsburg on Saturday, the Munich team has signed their second defender during the winter break.

“It’s a dream come true for me: it’s an honor to be able to play for a global club like FC Bayern. I’m really looking forward to my new team and to playing with all these great players in the future,” said Boey.

Friend: “Will increase quality in defense”

The Munich team has a certain need in Boey’s position. After Joshua Kimmich moved from outside to central midfield a few years ago, no long-term solution was found in the position.

The 23-year-old should now close this gap: “Sacha Boey is a very fast and physically strong right-back who covers a lot of kilometers in every game and is not afraid of a tackle,” said sports director Christoph Freund, describing Boey’s advantages. “He will increase our quality in defense.”

Boey-Konurrent Mazraoui wants to win the Africa Cup

For Noussair Mazraoui, who is currently with Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations, a long-term solution looked like it would be best, but the 26-year-old was repeatedly sidelined with long-term injuries.

Defensive midfielder Konrad Laimer, who was signed in the summer, recently had to defend on the right side. Alvaro Odriozola and Bouna Sarr, who were still on loan from Real Madrid under Hansi Flick, turned out to be awkward solutions.

Dier and Boey can hope for playing minutes straight away

Coach Tuchel currently has to moderate major personnel problems in defense for the record champions. Dayot Upamecano and Laimer (both muscle injuries) as well as Joshua Kimmich (shoulder) were also missing on Saturday.

That was the reason why Dier slipped into the starting line-up; left-footer Raphaël Guerreiro had to help out as right-back. When asked whether the Portuguese could do that, Tuchel replied: “He has to. He’s smart, there’s no other way.” Boey is now the hoped-for short-term reinforcement who should also establish himself as a full-back in the long term.
