Tripadvisor has unveiled the winners of its annual awards for the best restaurants in the globe in 2021, the Travelers’ Choice “Best of the Best”. Word to customers, as always: the verdict is the result of the quantity and quality of reviews expressed by users from 1 January 2020 to 30 April this year, mediated by the editorial intervention of the portal’s experts. But beyond the ranking of the absolute top restaurants, they also debut several new very tasty categories, which offer interesting ideas for all tastes and budgets.
The best restaurants in the world
Let’s start with the ranking of refined haute cuisine restaurants, an exclusive mecca for the most demanding gourmets, which shows results quite different from the rankings of professional reviewers (such as the famous World‘s 50 Best Restaurant). It stands out above all l’Old Stamp House di Ambleside, in the United Kingdom, followed on the podium by the Restaurant La Maison d’a Cote in Montlivault, France, and the Ise Sueyoshi in Tokyo. Two Italians in the top ten: the Quintessence of Trani to the ninth and the Villa Crespi of Orta San Giulio to the tenth, the creation of chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo.
From the most photogenic to the best vegan
In the new category best postcard restaurants, the very good ones how beautiful to photograph, the spectacular Koral Restaurant in Nusa Dua, Bali, stands out, housed in an aquarium teeming with marine life. Also in this case there are two Italian restaurants in the highest positions, both overlooking the lake: I Due Roccoli overlooking the Iseo and the Pizza Incontro sul Garda. Who seeks a magical one-on-one evening goes without fail to the Degusteria Italiana at the Uffizi in Florence, awarded as the best romantic restaurant in the world.
The gold medal of the new restaurants section of the moment, that is the emerging ones that are getting noticed, goes to Asil Restaurant in Dubai; here too two Italians in the top 10, the Wistèria of Venice and the Opera Restaurant of Naples. Among the vegans, the Vegan Beat of Athens wins (the first Italian is the Cavó Bistrot of Cagliari in position 18), in the category of best places for brunch the Scarlett Green of London. No Italian exponents here, but on the other hand brunch is not a local specialty.
