The former number 1 considers the institution of “Sport and health” an expropriation and feels betrayed by Malagò. Commissioner on the way?
Twist of the scene at the Coni del Friuli Venezia Giulia, the president Giorgio Brandolin, re-elected in the spring and who would have concluded his mandate only in 2024, that is in the Olympic year of Paris, on Thursday resigned before the regional government of the Committee Italian Olympic, that is to say in front of the twelve members of the junta.
A shocking decision, which the participants tried to have the former parliamentarian of the Democratic Party and former president of the Province of Gorizia review, but which the person concerned, practically unavailable from that day, even for his close collaborators, would have no intention of re-discuss.
Why did he go away? Simple: the establishment of the “Sport e Salute spa” Society, the operational arm of the Government, has never been digested by the sports manager, who in the Messaggero Veneto in the spring, on the eve of his re-election (granted, he was the only candidate) he had used strong words: “It is a beautiful and good proletarian expropriation, they have taken up sport and left the government of sport in canvas pants.”
And six months after those declarations, a summer of glory for Italian sport was not enough, and also a flurry of satisfaction and not only at the Tokyo Olympics, to change Brandolin’s mind who, according to what leaked by the members of the junta of the Coni, 4 provincial trustees, six representatives of the federations and two plant engineers, would also feel “betrayed” by the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò guilty of having “bartered” the salvation of the Olympic flag at the Olympics (with the famous decree, the ‘last of the Conte government or thereabouts) with the acceptance of the sport and health club.
The consequences? Coni Fvg, despite having excellent relations with the Region, finds itself without headquarters, money, staff, with no ability to plan or make investments. A kind of representative role.
The choice of Brandolin, therefore announced in hindsight in the spring, has greatly shaken the Regional Council, starting with the president Massimiliano Fedriga and the councilor with responsibility for sport Tiziana Gibelli, who just two weeks ago in Trieste, at the veterans’ award ceremony of the Olympic expedition to Japan, had emphasized the goodness of the region-Coni Fvg axis, also prefiguring new investments in the sector.
And now? Could a meeting between Brandolin himself and the president of Coni Servizi Vito Cozzoli be the solution this week? Hard. Coni Fvg, if Brandolin does not withdraw his resignation as requested by the council, will find itself at a crossroads: o continue with the current management with the deputy vice-president, Ermes Canciani, the number one of the Regional Committee of the Federcalcio, as chairman until further notice elections in the spring or choose the path of mass resignation. At that point a Commissioner would arrive from Rome.
In short, after the Olympic laurels and the summer of glory of Italian sport, with the great contribution given by regional athletes in all disciplines, here is the “political” storm. DeThe rest are we in Italy or not?
