Luke Littler was again unable to win a Premier League evening on Thursday, but The Nuke did put in the performance of the evening in his first match. With an average of 114, the 17-year-old Englishman beat Michael van Gerwen. Littler almost finished the egg with a nine-darter, but missed double 12 for a 144 finish.

The audience, cameramen and commentators were still recovering from the shock as Van Gerwen then made his last throw of the evening. The three-time world champion threw triple 20, triple 20 and double 12. Good for… 144 and exactly the throw that Littler missed for a nine-darter. Both had a good laugh about it.

Afterwards, Van Gerwen started his interview with Viaplay in a relatively positive light. He also has an average of 110 thrown. But the conversation soon turned into a fiasco when he was asked whether Van Gerwen had ever lost five times in a row before.
“I’m playing my best match in a few weeks,” said MvG. “I haven’t had my best week physically. If I throw that well, it feels good to me. I had an injection in my shoulder on Wednesday, so my injury is not over yet. If you want to make it negative, then by all means do so. You’ve never looked at me before, of course it happened to me once. I do not agree with you. You know, again: if you want to make it negative, you have to do it nicely. Figure it out, bye.”
