Wang Qiang Claims Victory at Wuning Station of International Women’s Tennis Tour

Beijing, April 29th – Chinese tennis star Wang Qiang emerged victorious at the Wuning Station of the International Women’s Tennis Tour, securing the singles championship at the “Shanshui Wuning Cup” Rural Commercial Bank ITF International Women’s Tennis Tour.

The tournament, held at the Wuning International Tennis Center, saw Wang Qiang facing off against Thailand’s Tararud in the women’s singles final. After a tough first set loss of 1-6, Wang Qiang bounced back to claim victory with a score of 6-3 in the second set. Unfortunately, Tararud suffered a recurrence of an old injury in the decisive third set and was forced to retire, leading to Wang Qiang’s win.

This victory marks Wang Qiang’s first international women’s singles championship since her comeback, propelling her immediate world ranking to 571st. Following the match, Wang Qiang expressed her happiness at achieving this milestone so soon after her return to professional tennis, and affirmed her commitment to participating in future events.

In the women’s doubles category, the championship was clinched by the multinational pairing of India’s Poser and New Zealand’s Horrigan.

This event, the first international-level professional tennis competition held in Wuning, Jiangxi Province, featured 32 singles and 16 doubles draws. With a total prize money of US$40,000 on the line and 50 points awarded to the champion, the tournament attracted a total of 64 players from China, Russia, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, India, Japan, and other countries and regions.

Wang Qiang’s victory at the Wuning Station serves as a testament to her skill and determination on the court, solidifying her position as a formidable force in the world of women’s tennis.
