Wels equalizes against Gmunden in the semifinals

BC Vienna still has to wait for their opponent in the men’s Superliga (BSL) final series. The Flyers Wels won against the Swans Gmunden on Sunday evening after a great finish 81:80 (41:44) and made it 2:2 in the “Best of five” semifinals. The all-important fifth game takes place on Thursday (5:00 p.m.) at Lake Traunsee.

In the Wels cauldron, the Swans already held all the trumps in the final quarter when they led 74:63 and 76:65 with six minutes to go. Even with 80:74 and 2:51 minutes remaining, everything spoke for Gmunden. But the Flyers didn’t give up and ended the prestige duel with a 7-0 run to victory. Elvir Jakupovic scored from long range with 24.8 seconds remaining. The guests could not use their chances after that.

On Thursday in the probably completely sold-out home arena for Gmunden it is about the 13th participation in a series of finals in the championship. The Flyers, founded in 2017 as the successor club to the WBC Wels, would celebrate their premiere in the title fight. The first finale takes place two days later.
