For the next two seasons, the women’s top league, the Italian Cup and the women’s Super Cup will be available on the Cairo Communication television station.

The women’s Serie A officially changes home. For the next two seasons, the first women’s football division will be available on the Timvision platform and on the La7 television channel. In fact, today the FIGC reached an agreement with Tim TV and with the Cairo Communication broadcaster for the two-year period 2021-2023. After having been able to see women’s football matches on Sky Sport, today’s agreement changes the cards on the table. While Timvision will continue to broadcast live all the matches of the top league, the La7 network (including La7 and La7d) from 28 August will bring a match for each matchday of Serie A.

“The assembly of women’s Serie A clubs has given us a mandate to deal with the most concrete offers for audiovisual rights for the next two sports seasons. In addition to finding all the matches on TimVision’s OTT, the big news will be that to be able to see one match per day in the clear on La7, thus giving the movement the possibility of reaching more and more people and families throughout the Italian territory “these are the words of Ludovica Mantovani, president of the Women’s Soccer Division.

NOT ONLY SERIES A

The agreement reached with the Football Federation does not only concern league matches. Timvision and La7 have acquired the rights to the other two main competitions of the Women’s Football Division, namely the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup.

As for the Super Cup, on the other hand, the Cairo Communication broadcaster will broadcast the three matches of the renewed tournament format. There will therefore be a total of 28 races per season visible on the La7 network.

WIND OF NOVELTY

A decision, the one reached today, which gives continuity to the renewal air underway in women’s football. From the 2022-2023 season, in fact, the number of teams in the top league will drop from 12 to 10, officially entering the era of professionalism. Relegations will drop from two to one, with Serie B seeing its number of teams increase from the current 14 to 16. The decision, passed last June 9 by the Federal Council of the FIGC, is aimed at increasing the level of appeal and competitiveness of the women’s movement, in order to make it an increasingly popular product in the Italian sports and television market.
