WTT Saudi Grand Slam: Fan Zhendong Misses Men’s Singles Quarterfinals

Xinhua News Agency, Jeddah, May 8 (Reporter Wang Haizhou) – In the 2024 World Table Tennis Professional League (WTT) Saudi Grand Slam held on the 8th, the Chinese team faced mixed results, with Fan Zhendong being eliminated in the men’s singles competition. Liang Jingkun and Lin Gaoyuan also missed the men’s doubles semifinals.

Fan Zhendong had a strong start in the match, winning two consecutive games with scores of 11:4 and 11:4. However, German player Francesca turned the tables and won three consecutive games with scores of 11:6, 11:8, and 12:10, securing a spot in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Wang Chuqin showcased outstanding performance by defeating Japanese player Maharu Yoshimura with a total score of 3:1 to advance to the quarterfinals. Lin Shidong also secured a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Iranian player Aramyan 3:1.

In the women’s singles category, Wang Yidi, Chen Meng, Qian Tianyi, and Sun Yingsha all advanced to the quarterfinals with impressive wins in their respective matches.

In the mixed doubles semi-finals, Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha defeated the Japanese pair Satoshi Harimoto and Hina Hayata with a score of 12:10, 11:9, 12:10, advancing to the final.

Chen Meng and Wang Manyu narrowly secured a spot in the women’s doubles semi-finals after a thrilling five-game match against their teammates Wang Yidi and Chen Xingtong.

In the men’s doubles quarter-finals, Liang Jingkun and Lin Gaoyuan were defeated by the Swedish combination Carlsen and Karlberg, while Malone and Wang Chuqin emerged victorious against the multinational pair Nuitik and Dias.
